Fire Extinguisher Maintenance
We carry out the legally required annual maintenance of your portable and wheeled fire extinguishers and fire hose reels. Our REOB-certified technicians work to NEN 2559 (portable extinguishers), NEN 2659 (wheeled extinguishers) and NEN-EN 671-3 (fire hose reels), so you comply with the Dutch Working Conditions Act, the Building Decree and your insurer's requirements.
Working fire extinguishers are essential for the safety of your employees, visitors and building. The Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet, article 3) and the Dutch Building Decree (Besluit bouwwerken leefomgeving, Bbl) require employers to provide sufficient, accessible and properly maintained fire-fighting equipment. Our REOB-certified technicians carry out the mandatory annual maintenance in accordance with NEN 2559 for portable extinguishers, NEN 2659 for wheeled extinguishers and NEN-EN 671-3 for fire hose reels.
In addition to the annual inspection, we also carry out the 5-yearly extended service and the 10-yearly overhaul or replacement of your extinguishers. At every inspection we clean the extinguisher and check the pressure, extinguishing agent, hose, signage and positioning. You receive a digital certificate and logbook that you can present straight away to the fire brigade, your insurer or a health and safety inspector.
We supply and maintain powder, foam, CO₂ and wet chemical (Class F) extinguishers as well as fire hose reels. Do you need new extinguishers or a fire extinguisher plan for a new building? We advise you based on your building's classification under the Building Decree, the risks present and the maximum walking distance of 30 metres required by NEN 4001.

Frequently asked questions about fire extinguisher maintenance
How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected?
Under NEN 2559, portable fire extinguishers must be inspected at least once a year by a REOB-certified maintenance company. In addition, an extended service is required every 5 years and an overhaul or replacement every 10 years. AM Security & Process Monitoring carries out all of these inspections throughout Limburg.
Is fire extinguisher maintenance a legal requirement?
Yes. Article 3 of the Dutch Working Conditions Act and the Working Conditions Decree (articles 3.7 and 3.8) require employers to provide effective fire-fighting equipment. The Dutch Building Decree (Bbl) sets requirements for its presence and accessibility. Maintenance in accordance with NEN 2559 is the applicable standard and is required by virtually every insurer.
What is REOB and why does it matter?
REOB stands for 'Regeling voor de Erkenning van Onderhoudsbedrijven kleine Blusmiddelen', the Dutch recognition scheme for companies that maintain portable fire-fighting equipment. Only REOB-recognised companies may issue official maintenance labels and certificates. AM Security & Process Monitoring works with REOB-certified technicians, so your maintenance is legally valid and accepted by insurers.
How often does a fire hose reel need to be inspected?
Under NEN-EN 671-3, a fire hose reel must be inspected every year for operation, pressure, hose condition and accessibility. Every 5 years a more extensive test follows, including a pressure test of the hose. We are happy to combine this with the maintenance of your extinguishers in a single visit.
How many fire extinguishers do I need in my business premises?
The minimum number is determined by NEN 4001, based on the floor area, the use of the building and the fire risks present. As a rule of thumb, you need at least 6 extinguishing units per 200 m², with a maximum walking distance of 30 metres. We will draw up a fire extinguisher plan for your site in Limburg free of charge.
