The situation
Early this year, a logistics company in Limburg got in touch with us. A large site, several loading docks and round-the-clock operations. They had an old analogue camera system that had not really done its job for years. The footage was blurry, night vision was poor and remote viewing was impossible.
On top of that, there was no alarm system and anyone could walk in and out freely. With valuable goods in the warehouse and night and weekend shifts, that was a risk they were no longer willing to take.
What we found
Our specialist spent a morning on site to survey the premises. We always do this free of charge, because you can only make a good plan once you know the situation.
The existing cameras were in poorly chosen positions. Two were filming a wall and one was completely broken. There were blind spots at the loading docks and at the rear of the building. The staff entrance had no security at all, just a door on a latch. Some of the existing cabling was still usable, which later saved on installation costs.
The plan
After the visit, we drew up a proposal in three parts.
For the cameras, we settled on 16 in total. Eight 4K bullet cameras for the outdoor area, with IR night vision up to 50 metres. Four dome cameras in the warehouse. Two PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras for an overview of the site. And two cameras at reception. All with person detection and line-crossing detection.
For the alarm system, we chose a Satel Integra with motion detectors in every room, magnetic contacts on all external doors and gates, and PIR cameras for photo verification. It is connected to our alarm receiving centre with Priority 1 police dispatch, which means a verified alarm is passed to the police as a top-priority call.
For access control, three entrances were fitted with a card reader and PIN code. Visitors come in via reception. There are time schedules per department, and the system is linked to the HR system, so an employee's card is blocked automatically as soon as they leave the company.
The installation
We installed everything in four days, outside office hours so as not to disrupt the logistics operation.
Day one was cabling: running network cables to every camera position. Day two: mounting and aligning the cameras and installing the NVR (network video recorder). Day three: the alarm system, fitting all the sensors and then connecting it to the alarm receiving centre. Day four: installing the access control, testing everything and showing the staff how it all works.
The facilities manager and the management team got the app on their phones, so they can watch live footage from anywhere.
The result
The company now has a fully integrated system. Cameras, alarm and access control work together. If a door opens outside working hours, the camera automatically turns towards it, the alarm goes off and the alarm receiving centre watches the live footage.
In the first month after installation, they received two alerts about unauthorised people on the site outside working hours. Both times, a security patrol was on site within fifteen minutes. That would not have been possible before.
"The team at AM Security & Process Monitoring did a fantastic job for us. From advice to installation, everything was handled professionally and quickly. We feel much safer now."
